U.S. Army Helps Monroe Central Tackle Bullying
Monroe Central would like to thank Sgt. Michael Ellis and the United States Army for their help in putting an end to bullying at Monroe Central. Sgt. Ellis led a convocation for all Jr. High Students on Wednesday, December 21 to discuss bully prevention. The convocation focused on the effects of bullying, what bystanders can do to help, and the importance of creating a safe, healthy environment at school. The Jr. High Student Council (pictured) played a large role in the anti-bullying campaign. In addition, all students at Monroe Central Jr./Sr. High School took the pledge to “Stand Up” against bullying by signing the pictured banner, now proudly displayed in the front hallway of Monroe Central.
Substance Abuse Education Day a Success
As part of Monroe Central’s Character Counts program, students at Monroe Central Jr. Sr. High School took part in Substance Abuse Education Day on November 30, 2011. During the afternoon, students rotated in groups throughout ten different stations, each with a different speaker and message related to substance abuse. Monroe Central would like to thank all ten speakers for their willingness to share with our students and help them to make better life choices. Food Drive 2011
The Monroe Central FFA and Student Council sponsored the 2011 Food Drive. All donations were given to our local community pantries. The Seniors won the class competition by donating over 300 items.
Katelind Phillips signs with Cleveland State
Senior Katelind Phillips, along with parents Michelle and David, signed a national letter of intent to attend Cleveland State University to play Softball beginning in the Fall of 2012. The signing ceremony was conducted in the High School cafeteria on Wednesday, November 9. Also pictured is varsity softball coach Bob McGrath.
National Honor Society New Initiates
The Monroe Central High School National Honor Society conducted an initiation service for new members on Monday, November 7 at 7:30 p.m. in the cafeteria. 20 new members took the pledge to be outstanding examples of Character, Scholarship, Leadership and Service. New initiates are: Darion Caldwell, Taylor Chalfant, Amber Deal, Ana Drown, Haley Fields, Jacob Hamilton, Lane Hosier, Faith Jarrett, Rachel Miller, Ciera Morgan, Cody Morris, Lauren Muzzarelli, Jacob Newton, Devin Nott, Alexander Ordonez, Kyle Parkison, Jacob Peckham, Mercedes Roberts, Abigail Shaw and Matthew Thornburg.
Hailey Norris – Cross Country Semi-State Qualifier
The Boys and Girls Cross Country teams competed in the Delta Cross Country Regional on Saturday, October 15. The girls finished 6th and the boys 7th. Congratulations to Hailey Norris – she finished 9th overall and qualified for the Semi-State.
SADD visits MCHS
Indiana SADD was in the high school parking lot on Friday, October 7 as part of Safe Driving Awareness month at Monroe Central. Students participated in three interactive activities to help them learn about making safe driving decisions.
Tanner Thompson – Boys Cross Country Randolph County Individual Champion
The Boys Varsity Cross County team captured the Randolph County Championship on Tuesday, September 27. Tanner Thompson was the individual boys champion and Chase Bly was runner-up. The Girls Varsity Cross Country team was second with Hailey Norris finishing third overall.
